 • Day Centre

Our Senior Citizens group has over 200 members who are potentially our new clients for the Day Centre. Most members are 70 or over.

Our needs

We need
  1. Space - bigger space to accommodate at least 25 clients. Our clients use zimmer frames and wheel chairs therefore a reasonable accommodation space is necessary
    1. Dinning area - to double up as an activity area. (e.g. painting, board games etc.).
    2. Sitting room - suitably equipped. i.e. easy  chairs (for conversation and social contact).
    3. Rest room/first aid room.
    4. T.V room.
    5. Office.
  2. Toilets, also disabled toilets properly equipped. e.g. washing facilities.
  3. Disabled parking facilities - pick up and drop off area under cover.
  4. Garden area with patio and garden furniture, enclosed so that confused clients do not wander off.
  5. A possible lock up garage for a mini bus which we would like to acquire for our disabled.
  6. Well equipped kitchen.
  7. Within the new accommodation we need provision for our existing luncheon club which is ran in conjunction with our Day Centre.

Why we want to move

  1. Lack of space - our present Day Centre room was adapted from a church room. The area is much too small for even 16 clients for whom we cater for now. The room has no windows to the outside, no natural light, no view to the outside.
We use electric light irrespective of what kind of day we have outside. It is becoming increasingly hazardous for clients who use zimmer frames and wheelchairs.
    1. We are even forced to use the club area on a different level (accessible through a staircase) as we are so overcrowded. This again can be dangerous for our Day Centre users.
    2. With present accommodation confused clients can wander off.
    3. We have no special access for the disabled - no parking facilities. Picking up and dropping off clients is very difficult due to the traffic.
    4. We have no separate dinning area.
    5. We only have one toilet which creates problems.
